Textual analysis: homework
1) This is a magazine.- "heat"
2) I know this is a magazine because this contains a variety of content and is published regularly because "heat" is a common brand and can be found in many stores.
The magazines name is "heat"- this is the brand of the magazine. The title is in lower case which seems to be portrayed as less formal and therefore appeal to a range of readers. Also, the fact that the lettering is bold and is the colour white on a blue background makes it stand out and seem more appealing.
Furthermore there is a strap line above the brand name which makes it appealing to the readers. The cover includes a powerful, central image of popular celebrity who catches the eyes of the public.
Additionally, the magazine cover includes revealing images of the celebrities. This makes the magazine more popular as people would want to know why the celebrity has posed that way.
Also, the magazine has lots of gossip about other popular celebs which makes the magazine relevant and shows meets the public eye by showing them that they are interested in this as well.
In addition on the top, left corner it says " FREE cinema tickets". By using the word "free" the public automatically think that they are getting more than just the magazine. Also, the fact that they are giving away cinema tickets would appeal to an ever larger audience because the public may only purchase the magazine for this reason.
The typography used in the subtitle is larger to show the contrast between the main stories and the side stories.
The barcode on the bottom, right corner is an essential part of the magazine as it helps the person purchase it. This is done deliberately and is a selling line.
The use of the different, appealing colours is done on deliberate to catch the eye of the public.- The magazine stands out more.
3) I believe that the target audience for this magazine is mainly young women. This is because there are fashion tips included inside this magazine and young women now days like to be updated on the latest trends. Additionally, the images of all the celebrities on the cover are female, which suggests that they are trying to catch a wider range of female audiences. The magazine advertises soft news, this is what young adults, mainly females like to know about. However, the magazine may deliberately be using appealing images of female celebrities in order to catch the eye of men. Therefore more of their magazines will be bought.
4) The audience would access the text by buying this magazine from the shops. This magazine is very popular and is available at all stores, including local shops. They would consume this in their free time. Some people would make free time to read this because the articles included in this are "juicy".
5) This magazine portrays how young females now days are more interested in gossip and fashion. By advertising the latest fashion trends in this magazine the number of young female audiences will increase. Also, the powerful images used in this text all show young women, but they are all dressed in a very modern way. This is done on purpose to tempt young females into buying clothes like this and dressing up in this way. Furthermore this also shows how younger men these days are more involved with women, so the magazine uses images of women which are revealing in order to appeal to them. However, the images used in this magazine are almost a stereotype of young girls these days because usually celebrities dress up this way (revealing clothes), but the media automatically thinks that all young girls are interested in these styles when they may not be.
